Give back to the culture
Project Objectives:
Encourage streetwear brands to make a change by giving back to the same communities that inspire them.
Give people of colour a voice/opportunity to be heard and represented within the streetwear fashion industry.
Aim to make the idea of ‘giving back to the community’ more apparent in wider society.
Project Approach:
‘Give back to the culture’ aims to explore the decline
of streetwear culture, focusing on how brands use the creativity and aesthetics of communities of colour, while failing to provide meaningful support or representation of those same communities.
Project Result:
An exhibition that invites
young creatives from diverse backgrounds to showcase their work in response to a given brief.A photo series by me that will be shown at the exhibition held at the New Art Exchange in collaboration with Nike.
Nike to set up an initiative that goes to different cities in the UK to give back to communities and provide them with creative opportunities.
Project Reflection:
The project is important because it doesn’t just affect people in the fashion industry but affects people as a society.
This will hopefully encourage other brands to do better after seeing Nike doing this.
Public figures going against the majority and standing up for their community.
